Crawfish Aquatics Hires Mathew Mixon As Senior Division Coach
Crawfish Aquatics has announced Mathew Mixon will lead the Baton Rouge program’s senior division as head coach.
Mixon brings a wealth of experience, leadership, and a proven track record of developing swimmers at all levels—from age group to national competitors.
Coach Mixon coached most recently at Sunkist Swim Club, where he led the program to compete in many national level competitions with top-eight finishes.
He won Senior Coach of the Year as well as Age Group Coach of the Year in the state of Mississippi.
His coaching philosophy emphasizes technical excellence, long-term athlete development, and building a positive and motivating team culture—values that align perfectly with our club’s mission, according to a statement by the club.
“Throughout the selection process, Coach Mixon impressed us with his vision for the future of our team, commitment to athlete growth, passion for the sport and overall knowledge of swimming at an elite level. We are confident that his leadership will inspire our swimmers and strengthen our club’s presence both in and out of the pool. That success was seen again this summer,” the statement read.
The spring and summer saw Crawfish Aquatics athletes and the team achieve high levels of success. The team was once again team champions at the Louisiana Swimming State Championships for both the age group and senior meets.
The team had nine first time sectional qualifiers and three new Summer Junior National Qualifiers and two new Winter Junior National Qualifiers.
Coach Mixon, along with Baton Rouge Senior Associate Head Coach Daniel Zielinski and Lafayette Head Coach Thomas Clavier, will lead the senior coaching ranks.
Organizationally, the founders, Steven and Jan Ripple, will continue to provide direction to the team and staff while leadership and guidance from executives Shelly Ripple Rogers and Jayme Cramer will continue to guide the team, according to the team statement.
