Cal Golden Bears Land Verbal from Junior National Finalist Evan Petty of Nashville Aquatic Club

NEW COMMIT: The University of California, Berkeley has snagged one of the last top remaining recruits in the Class of 2025: Evan Petty of Nashville, Tenn.

He will join Cal’s freshman class in the fall of 2021 alongside Robin Hanson, Jack AlexyKai CrewsTrent FrandsonGabriel Jett, Michael McGillivray and Jacob Soderlund.

Petty, who trains year-round with Nashville Aquatic Club, finished eighth in the 100 back and 16th in the 200 back at Juniors East in December. He most recently competed at the Southern Premier Invitational where his highest finish was a third-place showing in the 100 back.

His best times include:

  • 50 free – 20.74
  • 100 free – 46.06
  • 100 back – 47.99
  • 200 back – 1:46.35
  • 100 fly – 50.01
  • 200 fly – 2:04.38
  • 200 IM – 1:50.63

In summer 2019, he won the 50m back at the Southeastern LCM Championships before going on to record four top-12 finishes at Greensboro Futures. Petty also raced four events at Junior Nationals.

Also competing for Ensworth High School, Petty is a three-time TISCA State Championship finalist. He finished fourth in the 200 IM and fifth in the 100 back as a sophomore while taking seventh in the latter event during his freshman season.

He has also earned USA Swimming Scholastic All-American honors twice in his career thus far.
