U.S. Open Qualifier Gabriel Jett Announces In-State Verbal to Cal for 2021-22 Season

NEW COMMIT: The University of California, Berkeley, has received a new in-state verbal commitment for the 2021-22 season and beyond from Gabriel Jett of Clovis, Calif.

He will also join Michael McGillivrayJack AlexyJacob SoderlundKai Crews and Trent Frandson as members of Cal’s class of 2025.

Jett swims year-round with Clovis Swim Club and owns four U.S. Open cuts with three additional Junior National standards. He earned a trio of best times at Junior Nationals this past summer after strong showings at the TYR Pro Swim Series in Richmond and Clovis. Last winter, he was the 500 free runner-up at Carlsbad Sectionals where he also finished 10th in the 200 free.

Regarding his commitment, he said:

“I’m excited to announce my commitment to the University of California! I’m extremely honored to be joining this amazing program and to swim and study as a Cal Bear. The brotherhood of the team and coaches was truly inspiring and I look forward to contributing in every way possible to the team and school. ?!!GO BEARS!!?”

In SCY, his best times include:

  • 100 free – 45.91
  • 200 free – 1:38.13
  • 500 free – 4:24.33
  • 1000 free – 9:10.74

In LCM, his best times include:

  • 100m free – 52.77
  • 200m free – 1:54.59
  • 400m free – 3:58.35
  • 800m free – 8:33.24
  • 100m back – 57.98
  • 200m back – 2:06.21
  • 200m IM – 2:09.13

Jett will add valuable depth to the Golden Bears’ lineup when he arrives in Berkeley in the fall of 2021, and he has consistently made improvements with 1.5 years of club swimming still to go. Under head coach Dave Durden, Cal earned their second-straight Pac-12 Championship title and were crowned National Champions after a convincing team win at NCAAs last season.
