Big Ten Weekly Honors: Maggie Mac Neil, Brendan Burns Lead Award Winners

The Big Ten Conference announced its weekly swimming and diving honors.

Big Ten Women’s Swimmer of the Week

Maggie Mac Neil, Michigan

Sr. – London, Ontario – Sir Frederick Banting Secondary

  • Won both the 100 backstroke (52.73) and the 200 backstroke (1:54.88) in wins over No. 14 Wisconsin (189-111) and No. 20 Minnesota (179-121)
  • Posted NCAA ‘B’ cuts in both races
  • Was also part of the first-place 200 medley relay team (1:38.90) and 400 freestyle relay (3:18.49) teams that set pool records
  • Earns her sixth career Swimmer of the Week award and third of the season
  • Last Michigan Women’s Swimmer of the Week: Maggie Mac Neil (Dec. 8, 2021)

 

Big Ten Women’s Diver of the Week

Kristen Hayden, Indiana

Sr. – Hillsborough, N.J. – Panther Creek

  • Won both the 1-meter (319.50) and 3-meter (362.10) in the meet against No. 15 Louisville
  • Garners her second career Diver of the Week honor
  • Last Indiana Women’s Diver of the Week: Anne Fowler (Oct. 20, 2021)

 

Big Ten Women’s Freshman of the Week

Letitia Sim, Michigan

Spanish Fort, Ala. – Spanish Fort

  • Won the 100 breaststroke (1:01.02) and 200 breaststroke (2:13.44) in the victories over Wisconsin and Minnesota, clocking NCAA provisional times in both events
  • Was also part of the first-place 200 medley relay team (1:38.90)
  • Earns her third Freshman of the Week honor of her career
  • Last Nebraska Women’s Freshman of the Week: Letitia Sim (Dec. 8, 2021)

Brendan Burns, Indiana

Jr. – Berwyn, Pa. – Conestoga

  • Won the 100 butterfly (45.49), 200 butterfly (1:40.72), and 200 backstroke (1:41.18) in the 205-95 win over No. 11 Louisville
  • Posted NCAA provisional times in all individual three events
  • Was part of Indiana’s third-place 200 medley relay team (1:26.13)
  • Earns his fourth career Swimmer of the Week award
  • Last Indiana Men’s Swimmer of the Week: Marat Amaltdinov (Nov. 2, 2016)

 

Big Ten Men’s Diver of the Week

Carson Tyler, Indiana

  • Won both the 1-meter (411.83) and 3-meter (387.60) competitions in the win over No. 11 Louisville
  • Garners his second career Diver of the Week honor
  • Last Wisconsin Men’s Diver of the Week: Andrew Capobianco (Dec. 8, 2021)

 

Big Ten Men’s Freshman of the Week

Rafael Miroslaw, Indiana

Hamburg, Germany – Stadtteilschule Alter Teichweg

  • Won the 100 freestyle (43.10) and 200 freestyle (1:33.39) in the win over Louisville
  • Clocked NCAA ‘B’ cuts in both events
  • Was part of the first-place 400 freestyle relay team (2:51.06)
  • Earns his first Freshman of the Week honor of her career
  • Last Indiana Men’s Freshman of the Week: Carson Tyler (Oct. 20, 2021)
