Big Ten Weekly Honors: Brendan Burns, Ching Hwee Gan Lead Awards

The Big Ten announced its weekly swimming and diving honors.

Swimmer of the Week  
Brendan Burns, Indiana 
Sr. – Berwyn Pa. – Conestoga – Major: Management
  • Helped No. 6 Indiana top No. 15 Louisville and No. 22 Wisconsin to finish dual meet season 8-0
  • Won all three of his individual events and one relay, earning a pair of NCAA B cut times in his individual races
  • Helped Indiana win the 200-medley relay in an NCAA A cut time of 1:22.88, leading off with a 21.49 split
  • Finished with a season-best 1:40.78 in the 200-yard butterfly, the sixth fastest time in the NCAA 
  • Led a 1-2 Indiana finish in the 200-yard backstroke in a season-best time of 1:40.04
  • Last Indiana Swimmer of the Week: Brendan Burns (Jan. 24, 2024)
Big Ten Diver of the Week 
Maxwell Weinrich, Indiana
So. – Rockville, Md. – Sherwood – Major: Management
  • Swept the springboard diving events, setting personal bests in both events and eclipsing NCAA Zone Qualifying scores in each event 
  • Won the 3-meter with a score of 428.93 and won the 1-meter with a score of 388.13
  • Last Indiana Diver of the Week: Carson Tyler (Jan. 24, 2024)
Big Ten Freshman of the Week 
Davide Harabagiu, Minnesota  
Rome, Italy – Canottieri Tevere Remo
  • Collected a pair of individual wins and two NCAA B cut times at the Purdue quad
  • Won the 100 backstroke in 47.06 (B cut) and the 100 butterfly in 46.03 (B cut)
  • Led the 200 and 300 freestyle relay teams to a pair of first-place finishes
  • Also helped Minnesota to a second-place finish in the 200-medley relay
  • Last Minnesota Freshman of the Week: Ian Steffen (Jan. 10, 2024)

Ching Hwee Gan, Indiana 
Jr. – Singapore – Anglo-Chinese School – Major: Nutrition Science
  • Helped No. 9 Indiana top No. 8 Louisville and No. 14 Wisconsin to finish dual meet season 8-0
  • Swept the distance freestyle events, winning and beating her own program record in the 1,000-yard freestyle (9:30.07)
  • 1,000 free time is No. 3 in the NCAA this season
  • Also won the 500 free (4:40.30), an NCAA B cut time 
  • Last Indiana Swimmer of the Week: Anna Peplowski (Jan. 24, 2024)
Big Ten Women’s Diver of the Week
Anne Fowler, Indiana
Sr. – Burke, Va. – Homeschooled – Major: Healthcare Management & Policy
  • Swept the springboard diving events, posting two NCAA Zone Qualifying scores
  • Led top-three Indiana finishes on both boards, winning the 3-meter with a score of 381.45. Won the 1-meter with a 328.43
  • Earns her second Diver of the Week honor of the season and sixth of her career 
  • Last Indiana Diver of the Week: Anne Fowler (Jan. 24, 2024)
Big Ten Women’s Freshman of the Week
Kailey Koval, Penn State 
Katy, Texas
  • Won the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events, earning NCAA Zone Qualifying scores in both
  • Scored a 268.95 in the 1-meter dive and a personal best 323.85 in the 3-meter dive 
  • Earns her first Big Ten Freshman of the Week honor 
  • Last Penn State Freshman of the Week: Abigail Ekstrom (Oct. 19, 2023)
