Big Ten Weekly Awards: Ohio State’s Charlie Clark, Katherine Zenick Lead Honorees

The Big Ten announced its weekly swimming and diving awards.

Big Ten Men’s Swimmer of the Week

Charlie Clark, Ohio State

So. – Sandusky, Ohio – Perkins (Ohio)

  • Helped Ohio State defeat Denison to improve to 3-1 on the season
  • Won the 1000-yard freestyle (9:03.00), finishing 13 seconds ahead of the second-place swimmer
  • Garners his first career Swimmer of the Week award
  • Last Ohio State Men’s Swimmer of the Week: Jason Mathews (Nov. 20, 2019)

 

Big Ten Men’s Diver of the Week

Joseph Canova, Ohio State

Sr. – Gaithersburg, Md.– Quince Orchard (Md.)

  • Won two events to help Ohio State defeat Denison and improve to 3-1 on the season
  • Swept the one-meter (384.14) and three-meter (384.14) diving events, earning two NCAA Zone qualifying scores
  • Earns the second Diver of the Week honor of his career and his first this season
  • Last Ohio State Men’s Diver of the Week: Jacob Fielding (Jan. 29, 2021)

 

Big Ten Men’s Freshman of the Week

Alex Quach, Ohio State

Sydney, Australia – Hurlstone Agricultural High School (Australia)

  • Swam a personal best time of 57.21 in the 100-yard breaststroke in Ohio State’s in over Denison
  • Also recorded a time of 1:48.13 in an exhibition race in the 200-yard individual medley, marking the fastest time in the event by a Buckeye this season
  • Earns the second Freshman of the Week accolade of his career
  • Last Ohio State Men’s Freshman of the Week: Alex Quach (Nov. 3, 2021)

 

Big Ten Women’s Swimmer of the Week

Katherine Zenick, Ohio State

So. – Southlake, Texas – Southlake Carroll

  • Touched first in the 100-yard freestyle (49.75) and the 100-yard butterfly (53.73) in Ohio State’s win at Akron, securing an NCAA B-cut time in the 100-yard butterfly
  • Also contributed to wins in the 200-yard medley relay (1:39.97) and the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:31.58) in the meet against Akron
  • Helped Ohio State defeat Denison by winning the 200-yard freestyle (1:50.07)
  • Garners her first career Swimmer of the Week award
  • Last Ohio State Women’s Swimmer of the Week: Amy Fulmer (Nov. 3, 2021)

 

Big Ten Women’s Diver of the Week

Mackenzie Crawford, Ohio State

Jr. – Ypsilanti, Mich. – Milan (Mich.)

  • Won the three-meter dive (350.85) in Ohio State’s meet at Akron, setting a new pool record at the Oliver J. Osasek Natatorium in Akron, Ohio
  • Captured the one-meter diving event title against Denison with a score of 331.13
  • Secured NCAA Zone qualifying scores in both wins
  • Earns her second career Diver of the Week honor and her first of the season
  • Last Ohio State Women’s Diver of the Week: Mackenzie Crawford (Jan. 20, 2021)

 

Big Ten Women’s Freshman of the Week

Sofia Lobova, Rutgers

Krasnoyarsk, Russia – Gymnasium 11in Krasnoyarsk (Russia)

  • Earned two wins and recorded season-best times in all four of her events at Princeton
  • Won the 50-yard freestyle (22.97), marking the fifth-fastest time in program history
  • Touched first in the 100-yard freestyle in 49.95 to record the fourth-fastest time in the event in Rutgers history
  • Earns the first Freshman of the Week honor of her career
  • Last Rutgers Women’s Freshman of the Week: Sofia Chichaikina (Nov. 20, 2019)
