American Short Course Championships: Meet Comes to Close
AUSTIN, Texas, March 3. THE American Short Course Championships came to a close in Austin, Texas as most of the rest of the country is in the midst of heavy long course meter competition.
Longhorn's Brendan Hansen raced to victory in the men's 200 breast with a 1:54.13. Mizzou's Igor Kozlovskij finished second in 1:58.56, while Sebastian Wigstrom checked in third in 1:59.28.
Santa Clara's Chloe Isleta, 13, snagged the women's 200 back title in 1:57.89. TCCC's Lisa Bratton placed second in 1:58.23, while teammate Natilee Ruiz finished third in 2:01.47. Texas' Patrick Murphy topped the men's 200 back in 1:43.72. TCU's Cooper Robinson touched second in 1:44.11, while Stanford's Will Gunderson finished third in 1:45.13.
TPA's Cat Galletti touched out BCH Heatwave's Alex Hubel, 50.56 to 50.66, for the women's 100 free crown. Miami's Daniela Johnson finished third in 51.18. Mizzou's Mack Darragh claimed the men's 200 fly in 1:45.33. Stanford's Payne Montgomery finished second in 1:46.19, while Texas' Madison Gibson earned third in 1:46.88.
BCH Heatwave's Sammy Harrison cruised to victory in the women's 1650 free with a 16:14.20. BEND's Mackenzie Halligan finished second in 17:00.24, while Badger's Isabel Shipman took third in 17:06.97. Tidal Wave's David Sweeney hit the wall in 15:47.79 to win the men's 1650 free. NJRC's Stephen Benvenuto (16:16.04) and TCCC's Nick Connors (16:17.30) rounded out the top three.
Results from the men's 100 free, women's 200 breast and women's 200 fly were not available.
