Twelve women in Rio are headed to the finals in individual springboard, which will take place on August 14 at 3pm ET.

Some of those women include Shi Tingmao, who finished first in semis, and her teammate He Zi. American Abby Johnston, who finished semifinals in fifth, will also move onto finals. Johnston, who will graduate from Duke medical school in 2018 and is planning to retire commented that she “is just excited to do [her] last list of dives out there.”

Kassidy Cook, the other American women in the event ended up finishing in 13th place. It is probably due to her second dive, a missed front three and a half pike that only scored 41.85 points. Still, ever positive Cook reflects “I had a really strong finish, and I’m proud of myself for sticking it out.”

The semifinal scores do not carry into finals, but the order of diving is decided by the results. Based off of semis, Nora Subschinski, the German athlete in 12th place will go first, Shi will compete last.

Johnston summed up why anything can happen in the final. “Diving is an any given day kind of sport. You can show up and have the best day of your life or the worst day of your life and that happens to anyone.” She continued “I just want to go out there and have a really solid performance. I think that my best performance could land me on the podium, and I hope that’s what happens.”

The final will be broadcasted tomorrow at 7pm ET along with Track and Field, Gymnastics and Beach Volleyball.
