The 2022 NCAA Women’s Division I Swimming and Diving Championships continued with the Day 2 finals and the heat sheets have been released for the session.
The first event of the night is the 500 freestyle and Penn’s Lia Thomas is the top seed.
Meanwhile, Virginia’s Alex Walsh (200 IM) and Kate Douglass (50 free) have the other top individual seeds and Virginia looks poised for a strong showing in the 200 freestyle relay.
Kate Douglass broke the NCAA and American record in the 50 freestyle, but more importantly for Virginia, teammate Gretchen Walsh took the second seed, putting two in the finals for the Cavaliers. If they can go 1-2 it would be huge as the team looks to hold off Stanford and the rest of the field. Meanwhile, Alex Walsh took the top seed in the 200 IM, another big point possibility for Virginia.
The Cavaliers have eight swimmers back, double the next highest total by another team. Virginia will send five to the finals and three to the consolation finals. Based on seeds, the Cavaliers have gained 25 points from what the psych sheet times were, which could be a huge boost if the seeds hold.
Alabama is second on the list for the day with three headed to the finals and one headed to the consolation finals.
For diving, Arizona’s Delaney Schnell has the top spot just ahead of Minnesota defending NCAA champion Sarah Bacon.
