The 2022 Big Ten Women’s Swimming and Diving Championship continued on Friday in Madison, Wisconsin, with the Day 3 prelims.

The third day of the meet will see the 100 butterfly,  400 IM, 200 freestyle, 100 breaststroke and 100 backstroke, followed by 3-meter diving.

Ohio State entered the day with the lead after winning both relays on Wednesday night and continuing with a third relay win on Thursday, hanging on to a close lead over Michigan with two days remaining.

Big Ten Women 100 Butterfly

Michigan’s butterfly specialists got the job done in the morning session in the 100 butterfly.

Maggie Mac Neil, the reigning NCAA and Olympic champion in the event, predictably took the top seed in 51.31. It is two seconds off of her Big Ten record in the event, and nearly a second and a half off her incoming seed time. That means she could be poised for a huge performance in finals.

Meanwhile, senior teammate Olivia Carter, who is the defending NCAA champion in the 200 butterfly, took the second seed in 51.70 as the duo aims to finish 1-2 in finals, which would be a huge point boost for the Wolverines, who are trying to catch Ohio State.

Ohio State sophomore Katherine Zenick took the third seed in 52.01, followed by Northwestern senior Miriam Guevara (52.09), Wisconsin junior Mallory Jump (52.12), Wisconsin freshman Mackenzie McConagha (53.20), Ohio State sophomore Tristan Harrison (52.58) and Ohio State junior Morgan Kraus (52.67).
