2019 Pac-12 Women’s Championship Day 3 Finals: Stanford Builds Lead
Stanford leads by over 100 points going into the third day of the 2019 Women’s Pac-12 Championships. Cal goes into today seeded second with ASU in third.
Stanford got off to a strong start with Ella Eastin, Brooke Forde and Allie Szekely in the 400 IM and built the Cardinal lead. USC’s Louise Hansson broke the NCAA mark in the 100 fly and Cal got wins from Abbey Weitzeil and Amy Bilquist.

Ella Eastin made it 2-for-2 by winning the 400 IM on Friday to kick off the session, leading a 1-2-4-5-6 finish for Stanford.
Brooke Forde was seconds in 4:00.27, also an NCAA automatic cut, and Allie Szekely took fourth in 4:06.63, a “B” cut, following Cal’s Sarah Darcel (4:05.55). Stanford’s Leah Stevens was fifth in 4:08.31 and Hannah Kukurugya was sixth in 4:08.53.
Utah’s Jordan Anderson was seventh (4:08.75) and Arizona State’s Nora Deleske was eighth (4:11.83).
Same race. Same team. The two fastest 400 IM times in the nation this year.

USC junior Louise Hansson also made it 2-for-2 on Friday, winning the 100 fly in 49.34, breaking the NCAA record set by Kelsi Worrell in 2016 of 49.43.
Hansson won the 200 IM on Thursday, an event she decided on in the last minute. She kept up the pace in the fly and dropped more than a half second from her prelim time.
Cal’s Katie McLaughlin finished second in 50.67, followed by teammate Izzy Ivey (51.15).
Arizona’s Mackenzie Rumrill was fourth (52.10), followed by USC’s Jemma Schlicht (52.13), Maddie Wright (52.34) and Caitlyn Tycz (52.47). Utah’s Arya Fernandes was eighth (52.52).

Cal’s Abbey Weitzeil continued with the 2-for-2 theme on Friday and earned her second win, clocking a 1:41.97 in the 200 free.
She finished ahead of teammate Katie McLaughlin, who had just swam the 100 fly. McLaughlin finished in 1:43.04.
Cal’s Robin Neumann made it a 1-2-3 finish for the Bears, finishing in 1:43.25.
Stanford’s Lauren Pitzer was fourth (1:43.50) and teammate Morgan Tankersley was fifth (1:44.24).
Arizona State’s Cierra Runge was sixth (1:44.29), followed by Stanford’s Katie Drabot (1:45.16) and Cal’s Izzy Ivey (1:46.03), who also just swam the 100 fly.

Arizona State junior Silja Kansakoski held off former Pac-12 champion Riley Scott of USC to win the 100 breast on Friday.
Kansakoski finished in 59.12, ahead of Scott (59.37) and another Trojan, Kirsten Vose (59.43).
UCLA freshman Claire Grover took fourth (59.50), followed by Stanford freshman Allie Raab (59.60), Arizona junior Mallory Korenwinder (59.90), Stanford freshman Zoe Bartel (59.92) and Stanford sophomore Grace Zhao (1:00.23).

The time is an NCAA automatic qualifier and held off Stanford freshman Taylor Ruck (50.52), who also achieve an “A” cut.
Cal junior Keaton Blovad finished third (51.34) in a “B” cut.
Stanford freshman Lucie Nordmann finished fourth (51.47), followed by teammate Erin Voss (52.07).
Cal’s Sophie Krivokapic-Zhou was sixth (52.51), followed by Arizona’s Aria Bernal (52.83) and UCLA’s Emma Schanz (53.25).
