The fourth and final night of the 2017 arena Pro Swim Series Santa Clara wrapped up an exciting weekend of racing.

The night included fast swims across all the events, including a tie between Michael Andrew and Jay Litherland in the men’s 200 IM, as well as wins from 2016 Olympians Chase KaliszKevin CordesKylie MasseRyan Murphy, and Cierra Runge.

2017 arena Pro Swim Series Santa Clara: Day 4 Finals – Results

Women’s 200 Fly

The first event on the final night in Santa Clara went to Cal-Berkeley’s Katie McLaughlin. McLaughlin won the 200 butterfly in 2:10.35, leading the race from start to finish.

Texas teammates Lauren Case and Remedy Rule battled it out for second. Case got her hand on the wall first, touching second after McLaughlin in 2:10.80. Rule finished third in 2:11.41.

Fourth place went to Mexico’s Diana Luna Sanchez in 2:13.26. Luna Sanchez just touched out Venezuela’s Isabella Paez, who came in fourth in 2:13.36.

Mexico’s Maria Jose Mata Coco placed sixth in 2:13.51, while Caitlin Casazza of Georgia was seventh in 2:15.11.

Maria Clara Roman Mantilla of the Tiburones Tolima came in eighth in 2:15.24. Canadian Victoria Kwan rounded out the top nine in 2:16.17.

Men’s 200 Fly

Chase Kalisz, representing North Baltimore, narrowly got the win in the men’s 200 butterfly. His time of 1:56.60 was just ahead of Georgia’s Pace Clark, who touched in 1:56.75.

Third place went to Nation’s Capital’s Jack Conger in 1:58.44. He was followed closely by Cal-Berkeley’s Mike Thomas in fourth place in 1:58.54. Mick Litherland of Dynamo was fifth in 1:59.08.

Mexico’s Ramiro Ramirez Juarez finished sixth in 2:00.35. Venezuelan Marcos Lavado placed seventh in 2:01.11.

Georgia’s Gunnar Bentz was the eighth place finisher with a time of 2:01.67. Hector Ruvalcaba Cruz came in ninth in 2:02.69.

Women’s 100 Breast

Argentina’s Macarena Ceballos claimed the women’s 100 breaststroke by nearly a second, finishing first in 1:08.02. Second place went to Riley Scott of the Marin Pirates. Scott touched in 1:09.00.

Cal-Berkeley’s Marina Garcia Urzainqui placed third in 1:09.29. Emily Escobedo was fourth in 1:09.80.Fifth place went to Wisconsin’s Maria Carlson, who touched in 1:10.15.

Mexico’s Melissa Rodriquez was sixth in 1:10.79, just out touching Hong Kong’s Jamie Zhen Yeung, who came in at 1:10.79 for seventh.

Ema Rajic finished eighth in 1:11.23, while Stanford’s Kim Williams was ninth in 1:12.30.

Men’s 100 Breast

The second men’s event of the evening proved to be a close one as well. 2016 Olympian Kevin Cordes got his hand on the wall first in the men’s 100 breast, touching in a time of 1:00.61. Cordes was just ahead of Georgia’s Nicolas Fink, who placed second in 1:00.70.

Michael Andrew, representing the Race Pace Club, was third in 1:01.46. Longhorn’s Will Licon was just behind in 1:01.58 for fourth place.

Mexico’s Miguel De Lara Ojeda finished in fifth place in 1:01.83. He just out touched Carlos Claverie of Cardinal Aquatics, who claimed sixth place in 1:01.86.

Seventh place went to King’s Daniel Roy in 1:02.53. Stanford’s Hank Poppe picked up eighth in 1:03.34, while Cal-Berkeley’s Connor Poppe rounded out the A final in 1:03.38.

Women’s 100 Back

2016 Olympic bronze medalist Kylie Masse of Canada claimed first place in the women’s 100 backstroke. With her time of 1:00.34, she finished over half a second ahead of the rest of the field. Second place went to 15 year old Regan Smith of Riptide Swim Team, who touched in 1:01.01.

North Carolina’s Caroline Baldwin was third in 1:01.15. She was followed by Cal-Berkeley’s Amy Bilquist, who was fourth in 1:01.60.

Hilary Caldwell of Island Swimming placed fifth in 1:01.85. Hellen Moffit, also of North Carolina, came in sixth in 1:02.18. Stanford’s Erin Voss was seventh in 1:02.29.

Eighth place went to Mexico’s Fernanda Gonzalez in 1:02.43, while Island Swimming’s Danielle Hanus was ninth in 1:02.53.

Men’s 100 Back

The men’s 100 backstroke was a battle between two Olympic gold medalists in the event. However, Ryan Murphy of Cal-Berkeley got the win, beating out Tuscon Ford’s Matt Grevers. Murphy touched first in 53.48, the sixth fastest time in the world this year, while Grevers came in at 53.90.

Third place went to Grigory Tarasevich of Cardinal Aquatics in 54.16. Murphy’s teammate Jacob Pebley placed fourth in 55.02.

Arizona State’s Richard Bohus placed fifth in 55.42. Bob Glover of Indiana was sixth in 55.66, while Gator Swim Club’s Corey Main came in seventh in 56.34.

16 year old Jack Dolan of Rockwood Swim Club rounded out the top eight in 56.95.

Women’s 200 IM

Dropping nearly four seconds from her prelims swim, Texas’s Madisyn Cox finished first in the women’s 200 IM, touching in a time of 2:11.56. Finishing second behind Cox was Hong Kong’s Siobhan Haughey, who swam to a time of 2:12.10.

Emma Barksdale of Gamecock Aquatics came in third place in 2:15.78. Mexico’s Monika Gonzalez-Hermosillo was just behind in fourth place in a time of 2:15.96. She was followed by Emily Escobedo in 2:16.06 for fifth.

Sixth place went to Island Swimming’s Sarah Darcel in 2:16.43. Her teammate Danielle Hanus picked up seventh place in 2:17.61.

Minnesota’s Brooke Zeiger placed eighth in 2:17.70, while Gulliver’s Kelly Fertel was ninth in 2:17.88.

Men’s 200 IM

In yet another tight race on the men’s side, the 200 IM proved to be the closest of all. Michael Andrew of the Race Pace Club and Jay Litherland tied for first place in a time of 2:00.48. The two men won by nearly a second and a half.

Wisconsin’s Michael Weiss picked up third place in 2:02.12, just out touching Longhon’s Licon in 2:02.14 for fourth. Fifth place went to Retriever’s Mohamed Hussein in 2:02.71.

Kieran Smith of Ridgefield finished sixth in 2:03.14, while Georgia’s Fink was seventh in 2:03.26. Venezuela’s Juan Sequera came in eighth in 2:04.37.

Georgia’s Bentz was ninth in 2:05.82.

Women’s 800 Free

2016 Olympian Cierra Runge of Wisconsin finished first in the women’s 800 freestyle, touching in a time of 8:29.27 after a strong back half. Island Swimming’s Mackenzie Padington took second in 8:34.42, just ahead of Chile’s Kristel Kobrich, who was third in 8:34.75.

Fourth place went to Chenoa Devine of the Davis Aquadarts in 8:43.78. Arizona State’s Kendall Dawson was fifth in 8:47.45.

Hania Moro of Retriever Aquatics placed sixth in 8:53.24. Gulliver’s Kelly Fertel was seventh in 8:55.51, while Pleasanton Seahawk’s Miranda Heckman rounded out the top eight in 8:55.65.

Men’s 1500 Free

Marcelo Acosta, representing Cardinal Aquatics, won the final men’s event of the meet, placing first in the 1500 free in 15:14.03. Following him was Japan’s Shogo Takeda for second place in 15:17.23. Takeda just out touched his teammate Shingo Nakaya, who finished third in 15:17.24.

Mexico’s Ricardo David Vargas Jacobo came in fourth in 15:17.83. He was followed by Stanford’s True Sweetser who was fifth in 15:23.95. Kohei Yamamoto, another Japanese swimmer, placed sixth in 15:27.30.

Taketomo Tani, also of Japan, touched seventh in 15:38.74, while PEAK’s Ben Lawless was eighth in 15:41.19.

Please look at underwater tape of Katie McLaughlin in the 200 Fly at Santa Clara after reviewing FINA rule SW 8.3 If she ends up representing US, she could well be disqualified.
