NEW COMMIT: Marshall University has picked up a new in-state verbal commitment for the 2021-22 season and beyond from Wheeling, W.Va. native and Junior National qualifier Jenna Bopp.

She will join Leigh Lopez-Silvers and Sofia Bormett in Huntington as a member of The Herd’s class of 2025.

She told Swimming World:

“I am super excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim for Marshall University!! Huge thank you to my family, teammates, and coaches for supporting me and helping me get to where I am today. #goherd”

Bopp does her club swimming with Wheeling YMCA and won the 500 free while taking third in the 400 IM at the SEOWV Winter Championships in March. Last summer, she placed fifth in the 200m breast and sixth in the 100m breast at YMCA LCM Nationals en route to achieving best times in all of her events.

Her best times include:

  • 50 breast – 30.55
  • 100 breast – 1:04.36
  • 200 breast – 2:23.27

Also competing for Wheeling Park High School, Bopp is a six-time West Virginia State Championship finalist. She won the 100 breast and took fourth in the 200 IM as a junior while taking second and fifth, respectively, in those events during her sophomore season.

Bopp will make an immediate impact next year, as she would’ve been their fastest 100 breaststroker and ranked second on their roster in the 200 breast last season. She also would’ve scored in the B-final of both the 100 and 200 breast at the 2020 Conference USA Championships where Marshall finished fourth overall in the team standings.
