Yan Zibei Sprints To New National Record At 2018 Chinese Championships (RACE VIDEO)
The 2018 Chinese Championships and Asian Games Selection meet continue in Shanxi, China this week, with one national record falling on the final day of competition. Yan Zibei, who had already won the 100 breast earlier in the meet, won the men’s 50 breaststroke in a new Chinese record of 27.16 to best the field by more than half a second.
Notably, Olympian Sun Yang won his fourth title of the meet in the men’s 1500 freestyle. Sun added to his wins in the 200, 400, and 800 free from earlier in the meet, taking the 1500 by nearly 20 seconds in 15:04.92.
Li Bingjie prevented Wang Jianjiahe from a distance freestyle sweep by besting the 15-year-old in the 400 free, 4:05.37 to 4:06.97. Wang had previously won the 1500 free and 800 free earlier in the meet. Liu Xiang picked up her second win of the meet in the 50 free (24.55), while Zhou Min took the top spot in the women’s 200 IM to close out the meet.
