NEW COMMIT: One of the top sprinters in the Class of 2026, Jonny Kulow of Lander, Wyo. has announced his verbal commitment to Arizona State University.

He will join Parker Reynolds of Santa Maria, Calif. in Tempe at the start of the 2022-23 season.

Regarding his commitment, he said:

“I am extremely excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim at Arizona State University. Huge thanks to my coaches, family, and friends for supporting me through this process. Go Devils!”

A Junior National qualifier, Kulow trains year-round with Lander Swim Club and earned four best times at Juniors West in December. In Summer 2019, he collected five gold medals at the Western Zone Age Group Championships while achieving the same number of lifetime bests.

His best times include:

  • 50 free – 20.92
  • 100 free – 44.69
  • 200 free – 1:41.86
  • 100 back – 50.08
  • 200 back – 1:54.50
  • 100 breast – 59.12
  • 100 fly – 49.47
  • 200 IM – 1:52.33

Currently a junior at Lander Valley High School, Kulow is already a four-time individual Wyoming 3A State Championship gold medallist. He won the 100 free and 200 IM as a freshman before going on to set state records in the 100 free and 100 back during his sophomore season.

Last season, he led-off the 4×50 free relay in 20.97 during prelims en route to crushing the state record by nearly a second in 1:27.15 – a mark that stood since 1996. The USA Swimming Scholastic All-American also swam on the winning 4×50 medley and 4×100 free relays.

Kulow has guided his team to state titles the last two years, and Laner Valley clinched their 24th-straight championship crown in 2020.

When he suits up for the Sun Devils as a member of the Class of 2026, Lander will add his talents to a sprint group that’ll include Jack Dolan and Cody Bybee. Arizona State is currently redshirting this season after coming off an unofficial seventh place finish at the 2020 NCAAs before the meet was cancelled to slow down the COVID-19 pandemic.
