MANCHESTER, England, April 9. RUSSIA's Stanislav Donets finished just off his national record in the men's 100 back as he led the semifinal round of the event at the FINA World Short Course Championships.
Donets clocked a time of 50.71, just off his 50.61 set last December. Meanwhile, Randall Bal of the United States placed second in 50.89.
Austria's Markus Rogan also came close to his national record with a third-place 50.95. Rogan's standard still stands at 50.80 from back in 2004.
Australia's duo of Robert Hurley and Ashley Delaney tied for fourth with matching 51.31s, while Spain's Aschwin Wildeboer took sixth in 51.33 lowering his previous national record of 51.53 set last December.
Brazil's Guilherme Guido (51.38) and Great Britain's Liam Tancock (51.50) captured the final transfer spots into finals. Guido blasted the Brazilian record of 52.24 set by Alexandre Massura back in 2000, while Tancock just missed his record of 51.43 from prelims.
