World Championships: Serbia and Montenegro Defeats U.S. Men in Water Polo

MONTREAL, Canada, July 22. THE final round of preliminary play at the World Water Polo Championships ended with the United States men falling to Serbia and Montenegro, 8-4. The Americans were handcuffed by a pair of penalty shots from Serbia in the third quarter. Goals from those opportunities provided the Serbs with a comfortable margin.
The United States received goals from Adam Wright, Jesse Smith, Ryan Bailey and Jeff Powers. The United States will return to action on Sunday in a second-round matchup with Italy. Meanwhile, the American women will play Cuba on Saturday in a second-round game.
