NEW COMMIT: Mentone, Calif. distance freestyle specialist and current high school junior Jude Williams has announced his verbal commitment to the University of Wisconsin as a member of the class of 2024.

A talented freestyle who gets faster as the distance gets longer, Williams does his club swimming with Riverside Aquatics Association and owns three U.S. Open standards. He recently earned the bronze medal in both the 500 free and mile at Juniors West in December before winning the 1000 free at the CA Speedo Champions Series. Williams earned a trio of lifetime bests at Junior Nationals this past summer where he finished seventh overall in the 1500m free. He also placed first in the 1000 free and second in the 500/1650 free at Carlsbad Speedo Sectionals last March.

While representing Redlands East Valley High School, Williams is a three-time CIF Southern Section Championship finalist. He took third in the 500 free and eighth in the 200 free as a sophomore after taking 11th in the former during his rookie campaign. The NISCA and USA Swimming Scholastic All-American placed tenth in the 500 free at the CIF State Championships as a sophomore.

He told Swimming World:

“I am extremely thrilled to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at the University of Wisconsin! This would have never been possible without the endless support from all my family, friends, and coaches along the way and I look forward to competing for such a great program! #onwisconsin”

His best times include:

  • 100 free – 46.46
  • 200 free – 1:38.24
  • 500 free – 4:21.89
  • 1000 free – 9:07.85
  • 1650 free – 15:11.84

Even with 1.5 years of club swimming still to go before suiting up for the Badgers, Williams would’ve scored in the B-final of the 500 free and placed in the top-15 in the mile at the 2018 Big Ten Championships. He will also join Andrew Benson and Jacob Carlson in Madison at the start of the 2020-21 season.
