Washington vs. Dickinson
CARLISLE, Pennsylvania, January 25. HOST Dickinson College bested visiting Washington College, 111-74, in Centennial Conference men's swimming action this afternoon in Carlisle, PA. Senior Dan Wentzel (Exton, PA/Henderson) recorded a pair of first-place finishes in the loss for the Shoremen (4-4, 0-3 Centennial).
Wentzel won the 1000 freestyle in 10:47.23 and finished first in the 500 freestyle in a Washington College season-best time of 5:05.58.
Junior Dylan Pollock (Savannah, GA/Benedictine Military) and freshman Nick Longworth (Media, PA/Strath Haven) each won one event for the Shoremen. Pollock captured the 200 butterfly in a WC season-best time of 2:04.68, while Longworth won the 200 backstroke in a WC season-best time of 2:01.21 to become the Shoremen's sixth-fastest swimmer ever in the event.
Freshman Austin Auger (McLean, VA/Langley) placed second in the 200 breaststroke in 2:25.86.
The Shoremen return to action one week from today with a 1:00 p.m. Centennial Conference home meet against Ursinus.
For the women, host Dickinson College topped visiting Washington College, 127-78, in Centennial Conference women's swimming action this afternoon in Carlisle, PA. Freshman Kelly Dunbar (Williamsburg, VA/Lafayette) won two individual events for the Shorewomen (8-3, 1-3 Centennial) in the loss.
Dunbar won the 1000 freestyle in 11:11.54 and the 200 breaststroke in 2:37.95. Sophomore Rachel Glasser (Silver Spring, MD/Springbrook) added a first-place finish in the 200 freestyle in 1:59.48 and a second-place finish in the 500 freestyle in a Washington College season-best time of 5:17.40. Junior Kathy Gerhart (Phoenixville, PA/Phoenixville Area) won the 200 butterfly in 2:21.29 and was second in the 50 freestyle in 25.77.
Gerhart, junior Cailin Eisele (Egg Harbor Township, NJ/Egg Harbor Township), freshman Mary Stroman (Bala Cynwyd, PA/Friends Central), and Glasser posted a WC season-best time of 3:52.36 in the 400 freestyle relay, finishing third.
The Shorewomen return to action one week from today with a 1:00 p.m. Centennial Conference home meet against Ursinus.
