Virginia Tech Adds Divers Ava Gilroy, Peyton Guziec to Class of 2022

NEW COMMIT: Virginia Tech has picked up a pair of verbal commitments for the fall of 2022 from two standout divers: Cornelius, North Carolina native Ava Gilroy and Peyton Guziec of Frisco, Texas.

They will arrive in Blacksburg as a member of the Hokies’ Class of 2026 along with Sydney DaBaecke, Emily ClaessonCaroline FoltzIsabel Marstellar and Carmen Weiler.

She told Swimming World:

“I am beyond excited to announce my verbal commitment to further my academic and athletic career at Virginia Tech! I would like to thank my family, coaches, teammates and loved ones for helping me make this possible. Go hokies!!”

Gilroy trains with Carolina Diving Academy under head coach Aaron Hintz. She finished 24th on the platform at the USA Diving Junior National Championships after taking seventh on that event at the Zone D Championships. Currently a senior at Hough High School, she placed fourth on the 1-meter at the 2021 North Carolina 4A State Championships.

She told Swimming World:

“I’m incredibly honored to announce my commitment to further my academic and athletic careers at Virginia Tech! With extremely supportive teammates and world class coaches, I can’t wait to accomplish big things with this amazing group. Thank you to all my friends and teammates and coaches for supporting me throughout this process! #gohokies”

Guziec does her diving with GC Diving under the direction of Justin Ruszkowski. She dove to 14th on the platform at the Zone B Championships after taking 14th on the 3-meter and 16th on the 1-meter at the Junior Region 4 Championships. While representing Frisco Memorial High School, she earned silver on the 1-meter at the UIL Texas 5A State Championships.
