Virginia Snags 2028 Verbal From YMCA Nationals 100 Breast Champion Skylar Zuleger
NEW COMMIT: The University of Virginia continues to grow a very impressive Class of 2023 recruiting cohort, earning a verbal commitment from Advance, N.C. native Skylar Zuleger. Zuleger, a Summer Nationals qualifier, is among the best breaststrokers in this class.
She will join Lane Francis, Alex Siegel, Karina Plaza, Allison Kelly and Shelby Hutchinson in Charlottesville in Fall 2028.
Regarding her commitment, she said:

Zuleger trains year-round with Northwest North Carolina YMCA Riptyde and most recently placed 20th in the 50m breast at USA Swimming Summer Nationals in August. She won the 100 breast and earned bronze in the 200 breast at YMCA Short Course Nationals in April.
Her best times include:
- 50 breast – 28.42
- 100 breast – 1:00.73
- 200 breast – 2:12.95
Currently a junior at Davie High School, Zuleger grabbed bronze in the 100 breast at the 2025 North Carolina 4A State Championships as a freshman. She is a USA Swimming Scholastic All-American and NISCA All-American.
Zuleger’s best time in the 100 breast is already fast enough to have scored in the B-final at last season’s conference meet.
The Cavaliers won their seventh straight Atlantic Coast Conference title and their sixth consecutive NCAA Championship crown in 2026.
