NEW COMMIT: Emily Ryan has handed her verbal commitment to Villanova University. Ryan is from Bartlett, Illinois, where she swims for Saint Charles Swim Team. She’s a senior at Rosary High School.

She wrote on Instagram,

“I am very excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at Villanova University. GO WILDCATS”

While strongest at backstroke (in terms of USA Swimming’s Power Point system), Ryan is incredible versatile and will contribute across the board. Her best times are:

  • 50 Back 25.45
  • 100 Back 55.22
  • 200 Back 1:57.60
  • 200 Free 1:51.29
  • 100 Free 50.67
  • 50 Free 23.55
  • 200 Fly 2:04.00
  • 100 Fly 56.12
  • 400 IM 4:20.46
  • 200 IM 2:03.50
  • 200 Breast 2:19.97

The Wildcats are the defending Big East Champions. Ryan should be a key piece to continue that success. She has a number of event options and would find herself in the A final of everything except the distance freestyle events.

For her day one event, Ryan could have swum the 200 IM and finished fourth or the 50 free and finished fifth last year. On day two Ryan’s best 400 IM time would have won the conference. In the 100 fly her best time would be good for seventh while her top 200 free would score sixth place points and her 100 backstroke time would have been good for third last year. On day three, Ryan would have been the 200 backstroke runner up last year. She could have been fourth in the 100 free, sixth in the 200 breaststroke, or third in the 200 fly. The Villanova coaching staff has plenty of options, depending on team needs, and what is clicking for Ryan.

Also joining the Wildcats next fall are Abby BerlocoGrace Wielar and Nicole Welch.
