NEW COMMIT: Villanova University is building a well rounded women’s class of 2022. The Wildcats have added a verbal commitment from Abbey Berloco. She’ll suit up alongside Grace Wielar and Nicole Welch next fall.

Berloco is from Princeton, New Jersey where she swims for the Hamilton Area YMCA. She’s a senior at Notre Dame High School in Lawrenceville.

Her top times are:

  • 50 Free 23.17
  • 100 Free 50.03
  • 200 Free 1:50.16
  • 100 Fly 56.84

At YMCA Nationals this summer Berloco finished seventh in the 200 free (2:06.41).

At last season’s Big East Championship, Berloco would have been the 100 freestyle runner up. The Wildcats went 1-2-4-6 in that event. In the 50 freestyle her best time would have been good for fifth at last year’s meet. Villanova went 1-2 there. Berloco also would have been fifth in the 200 free, an event Villanova took the top six spots in. Given her sprint freestyle abilities, Berloco should be an immediate relay piece as well for the defending Big East Champions.

She wrote on Instagram,

“Beyond excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim at Villanova University! A huge thank you to my parents, teachers, and coaches for making this possible. I can’t wait to be a wildcat next year!#novanation #gocats #villaSOfun”
