Versatile Garret Green of Blue Tide Aquatics Verbally Commits to Tennessee for 2022

NEW COMMIT: The University of Tennessee has received another verbal commitment for their growing class of 2026 from Kingwood, Texas native and Junior National qualifier Garret Green.

He will join Nick Simons of Lake Oswego, Ore. in Knoxville at the start of the 2022-23 season.

Regarding his commitment, he said:

“I’m extremely excited to announce my verbal commitment to the University of Tennessee. Id like to thank my family, teammates and coaches for getting me to where I am today. GO VOLS?”

Green, who is a versatile swimmer and trains year-round with Blue Tide Aquatics, most recently picked up three best times at College Station Sectionals in March. He earned 100% best times at Juniors West in December where he placed 23rd in the 100 back.

Last summer, he had an incredibly strong showing at Southern Zone Seniors. Green was the runner-up in the 200m breast, 200m IM, and 400m IM en route to recording three additional top-5 finishes.

His best times include:

  • 50 back – 22.94
  • 100 back – 49.27
  • 200 back – 1:51.19
  • 100 fly – 48.68
  • 200 fly – 1:51.29
  • 200 breast – 2:04.22
  • 100 breast – 58.98
  • 200 IM – 1:49.89
  • 400 IM – 4:04.97

A current junior at Kingwood High School, Green is already a four-time Texas 6A State Championship finalist. He placed fifth in the 100 fly and 11th in the 100 back as a sophomore while taking 14th in the 200 IM and 16th in the 100 back during his freshman season.

In 2020, he also led off the 4×50 medley relay in 23.05 that went on to earn silver as well as split a 20.88 on the 4×50 free relay that grabbed bronze.
