Uster International: Evelyn Verraszto Doubles During Quick Night
USTER, Switzerland, January 31. THE first night of short course meter swimming at the Uster International meet in Switzerland came to a close with a plethora of meet-record performances.
Lotte Friis kicked off the evening in style with a meet-record time of 4:05.99 in the women's 400 free, while Mads Glaesner came through with a triumphant time of 3:45.05 in the men's 400 free.
Both Evelyn Verraszto and Julie Hjorth-Hansen cleared the meet record in the women's 200 IM as both registered 2:10s. Verraszto, however, claimed the title with a 2:10.35 to 2:10.98 victory. Lukasz Wojt followed with a winning readout of 2:00.17 in the men's 200 IM.
Elise Matthysen (1:08.05) held off Carmela Schlegel (1:08.40) and Janne Schaefer (1:08.48) for the women's 100 breast win, while Oleg Lisogor and James Gibson dead-heated with matching times of 59.72 in the men's 100 breast.
Iris Rosenberger touched out Valentina Zonno, 2:14.17 to 2:14.29, in the women's 200 fly, while David Verraszto hit the wall in 1:57.86 to beat Toni Embacher (1:5810) and Alexandre Liess (1:58.31) in the men's 200 fly. Liess' effort also stands as a Swiss record.
Evelyn Verraszto doubled with a meet-record time of 2:08.49 in the women's 200 back with Esther Baron taking second in 2:09.31. Meanwhile, Aschwin Wildeboer clocked a swift time of 1:54.89 for the men's 200 back meet record.
Hinkelien Schreuder crushed the women's 100 free field with a victorious time of 53.79 for the meet record, while Fabien Gilot (47.32), Flori Lang (47.84) and Rafael Munoz Perez (47.88) each beat the meet record in the men's 100 free.
Notably, Kicker Vencill (48.98) and Peter Marshall (49.64) finished fourth and sixth in the men's 100 free while representing the U.S.
