USA Swimming Sectionals, Mount Hood: Bonnie Brandon, Ian Wheeler Win Distance Night
MOUNT HOOD, Oregon, July 22. THE first night of long course meter swimming at the USA Swimming Sectionals held in Mount Hood, Ore., featured individual distance events.
Mission Aurora's Bonnie Brandon, 15, won the women's 800 free in 8:53.83. DU Hilltopper Amanda McNally took second in 8:57.68, while Boulder's Elizabeth Anderson, 14, completed the top three in 8:59.20.
Tacoma's Ian Wheeler topped the men's 800 free in 8:20.56, while Wyoming's Kyle Wemhoff placed second in 8:22.36. North Jeffco's Andrew Chevalier wound up third in 8:22.78.
The 200 free relays concluded the evening. Colorado Stars' Caroline Piehl, Kelly Naze, Jordan Mattern and Missy Franklin won the women's title in 1:45.58. Mount Hood's Seth Dawson, Brett Nagle, Jared Maricle and Kyle Maese took home the men's crown in 1:34.67.
