USA Swimming Sectionals, Mission Viejo: Fran Crippen Wins Twice on Third Night
MISSION VIEJO, California, March 7. MISSION Viejo continued to enjoy its home turf as Fran Crippen turned in a double during the third night of swimming at the USA Swimming Sectional held in Mission Viejo.
Catherine Breed, 14, of Pleasanton started the night with a surprising victory over Karlee Bispo of Pirate Aquatics as Breed touched in 2:02.48, ahead of Bispo's 2:03.48 in the women's 200 free.
The host Nadadores went 1-2 in the men's 200 free one event later as Crippen recorded a 1:54.66, while teammate Chad La Tourette finished second in 1:56.21.
Another 14-year-old shined, this time in the women's 400 IM as Madeline DiRado of Santa Rosa won with a time of 4:52.00, while Crippen returned in the men's 400 IM for the double when he clocked a 4:30.89 to down the ever-improving Trevor Hoyt, 16, of the Yucaipa Swim Team, who finished in 4:34.90.
