USA Swimming Sectionals, Knoxville: Katura Harvey Wins Fourth Title
KNOXVILLE, Tennessee, July 19. THE final day of long course meter swimming at the USA Swimming Sectionals came to a close in Knoxville with North Carolina's Katura Harvey capturing her fourth title in as many days.
Harvey won her fourth title of the meet with a 16:45.05 in the women's 1500 free. Georgia Coastal's Nicole Menzel (17:01.94) and Erika Wozniak (17:09.05) finished second and third. Cardinal's Riley Martin took the men's 1500 free title in 15:52.97 with S. Cunningham (16:09.68) and Barracudas' Taylor Wilson (16:11.91) snagged second and third.
Cardinal's Anna Dischuck and Wildcat's Jenna Newsome tied for the women's 100 free title with matching 57.77s. North Carolina's Megan Steeves finished third in 57.87. Tennessee's Mason Norman claimed the men's 100 free in 51.23. Virginia's Peter Geissinger placed second in 51.39, while North Carolina's Hank Browning completed the top three in 51.69.
Tennessee's Alex Barsanti won the women's 200 breast in 2:35.29, while Duke's Maija Roses, 13, placed second in 2:35.74. North Carolina's Layne Brodie wound up third in 2:36.24. Saluki's Jameson Kuper cruised to the men's 200 breast title in 2:20.94. SwimMAC-Carolina's Chandler Thomas placed second in 2:22.31. North Carolina's Flynn Jones touched third in 2:23.97.
Marlins of Raleigh's Kirsten Smith overcame North Carolina's Carly Smith, 2:15.04 to 2:15.74, in the women's 200 back. Duke's Ashley Howard finished third in 2:17.22. Virginia's Daniel Johnson snatched the men's 200 back in 2:03.00. Baylor's Nathan Vredeveld placed second in 2:06.46 with SwimMAC-Carolina's Collin Higgins taking third in 2:06.70.
