USA Swimming Sectionals, Federal Way: Amber McDermott, Ben Holston Win On Night One
FEDERAL WAY, Washington, March 10. THE first evening of short course yard action at the USA Swimming Sectionals held in Federal Way featured distance freestyle swimming along with the sprint free relays.
Cascade's Amber McDermott won the women's 1000 free in a time of 9:40.10, while teammate Annemarie Thayer finished second in 9:50.51. Denver's Paige Newell wrapped up the top three in 9:54.45. Denver's Ben Holston claimed the men's 1000 free in 9:12.48, while Scottsdale's Tanner Roe picked up second in 9:13.73. North Jeffco's Andrew Chevalier rounded out the top three in 9:19.99.
Colorado Stars Missy Franklin, Caroline Piehl, Kelly Naze and Jordan Matter put together a strong time of 1:31.77 in the women's 200 freestyle relay for the win. Franklin clocked a swift time of 22.49 to leadoff her team. KING's Megan Jendrick, Andie Taylor, Amelia Messegee and Lauren Kaufmann finished second in 1:32.20.
The Thunderbolts' quartet of Morgon Henderson-Kunz, Aaron Young, Steven Ung and Gabriel Rooker captured the men's 200 free relay in 1:23.56. Lake Oswego's Andrew Heymann, Tim Engvall, NickBode and Gunnar Wolfe placed second in 1:24.08.
