USA Swimming Sectionals, Columbia: Chelsea Franklin, Haley Spencer Clear Listed Regional Records
COLUMBIA, Missouri, July 23. THE USA Swimming Sectionals held in Columbia brought forth a pair of performances that cleared listed long course meter regional records.
Chelsea Franklin lowered the listed regional record in the women's 400 free with a time of 4:18.58. That swim beat the record listed as a 4:19.88 set by Shelly Black back in 1979. Alison Templin finished second in 4:20.05, while Erica Totten took third in 4:21.85.
Rockwood's Haley Spencer eclipsed the listed regional record in the women's 100 breast with a 1:09.15. That time cleared the 1:10.45 set by Liz Smith last year. Columbia's Morgan McCleery touched second in 1:12.99, while Wichita's Nicole Daniels placed third in 1:13.06.
Tsunami's Tyler Fowler won the mens' 400 free in 4:01.67, while Kansas City Blazer Ben Bravence took second in 4:02.22. Columbia's Spencer Lauver touched third in 4:08.34. Tsunami's Chris Novak claimed the men's 100 breast in 1:04.69, while Kansas City Blazers Nate Hoisington (1:05.41) and Nate Ladner (1:05.79) completed the podium.
Club Huskers' Mariah Hutchinson topped the women's 200 fly in 2:16.52, while Totten picked up her second podium of the night with a second-place 2:17.75. Arkansas Dolphin Jessica Garrison turned in a third-place 2:18.56. Arkansas Dolphins Troy Esentan (2:07.16) and Eric Zheng (2:08.95) went 1-2 in the men's 200 fly, while Parkway's Nickolaus Orf snatched third in 2:09.46.
Topeka's Emily Dicus captured the women's 100 back in 1:04.03, while Rockwood's Samantha Wright touched second in 1:05.07. Parkway's Hallie Stupp placed third in 1:05.85. Columbia's John Higgins snared the men's 100 back title in 57.87, while Kansas City Blazer Seth Musser (58.62) and Columbia's Adam Abernathy (59.19) rounded out the top three.
