USA Swimming Sectionals, College Station: Matt Thompson, Lily Moldenhauer Shine
COLLEGE STATION, Texas, March 7. DALLAS Mustang Matt Thompson and Alamo Area's Lily Moldenhauer put together a pair of strong nights at the USA Swimming Sectionals held in College Station, Texas.
Thompson started the night with a meet-record time of 1:36.80 in the men's 200-yard free. The effort beat the 1:38.35 set by Evan Ryser back in 2005. Thompson later destroyed the meet record in the men's 400-yard IM with a time of 3:50.39. The performance shattered the old record of 3:54.81 set by Anthony Fleming back in 2005.
Moldenhauer also had a strong evening with a meet-record time of 1:46.77 in the women's 200-yard free. The readout edged the 1:46.95 set by Codie Hansen in 2005. Moldenhauer earned the women's 100-yard fly with a meet-record time of 53.19. The clocking beat the 53.71 set by Dana Vollmer in 2005.
Eagle's Merritt Krawczyk snagged the women's 200-yard breast title in 2:16.27, while Katy's Jason Ting took the men's 200-yard breast in 2:01.25.
Fleet's Cole Cragin eased through the men's 100-yard fly with a 48.77 for the win, while Texas A&M's Lauren Clifford touched in 4:17.70 for the women's 400-yard IM victory.
The 800-yard free relays finished the evening. Tucson Ford's Sarah Denninghoff, Karima Chuk, Stef Wells and Alaina Kirkpatrick won the women's title in 7:24.34, while the Dallas Mustang contingent of Matt Roney, Caleb Veazey, Connor Nolan and Thompson picked up the men's crown in 6:38.45.
