COLLEGE PARK, Maryland, March 13. KATE Ziegler and Matt Benecki of The Fish swept the distance freestyle events on the first night of swimming at the USA Swimming Sectionals held in College Park.
Ziegler, mostly swimming by herself, cruised to victory in the women's 1500 free with a time of 16:13.54. She finished well ahead of Lindsay Vrooman, 16, of Pine Richland Aquatics as Vrooman took second in 17:04.03.
Benecki posted a convincing triumph of his own in the men's 800 free when he hit the wall in 8:22.50. James Fee of Bluefish provided his closest competition with a time of 8:28.91 for second.
