USA Swimming Sectionals, Brown Deer: More Meet Records Downed
BROWN DEER, Wisconsin, March 14. THE third night of action at the USA Swimming Sectionals held in Brown Deer, Wis., featured more meet records falling by the wayside.
Elmbrook's Kelsey Hojan-Clark opened the evening with a winning time of 4:22.16 in the women's 400-yard IM, while Sam Wilcher topped the men's 400-yard IM in 3:53.89 to just miss the meet record of 3:53.39 set by Tim Leibhold in 2007.
Ames Cyclone Stephanie Koch dominated the women's 50-yard free with a top time of 23.25, while Schroeder YMCA's Adam Mania won the men's splash-and-dash in 20.21 after setting the meet record with a 20.12 during prelims. Kyle Bubolz owned the old record with a 20.21 back in 2003.
Firestone's Breanna McCann snagged the women's 200-yard breast crown in 2:16.49, while Ivan Gutesa smashed the meet record in the men's 200-yard breast with a 1:56.93. That effort demolished the 2:00.91 set by Giordan Pogioli in 2002.
Wildkit's Sarah Thompson walked away with the women's 500-yard free triumph in 4:56.57, while North Shore's Bill McCarty touched first in the men's 500-yard free with a time of 4:32.16.
Birmingham's Hayley Johnson, Annie Lazor, Jayme Groth and Karly Moore won the women's 400-yard medley relay in 3:54.09, while New Trier's Michael Dominski, Samuel Metz, Bubolz and Joe Jeffers concluded the night with a meet-record time of 3:18.20 in the men's 400-yard medley relay. The time bettered the 3:20.01 set by the University of Minnesota in 2003.
