US National Championships Day 1 Prelims: Torri Huske, Gretchen Walsh, Kate Douglass Sprint to Start (Heat Sheets)
The 2025 U.S. National Championships kicks off in Indianapolis today. The meet will determine the country’s roster for the upcoming World Aquatics Championships.
The first session will include prelim heats the men’s and women’s 100 freestyle and 200 butterfly and will also have the slower heats of the men’s 1500 freestyle and women’s 800 freestyle.
First is the 200 butterfly and top-seeded Regan Smith will find herself in familiar territory in the middle of the pool. Fellow Olympian Alex Shackell and Lindsay Looney will be the others in Lane 4 of the circle-seeded heats.
The men’s 200 butterfly has Luca Urlando in the top spot and he will be in Lane 4 for the final heat. Thomas Heilman and Trenton Julian will be in the middle of the pool for the circle-seeded heats.
The women’s 100 freestyle is one of the most star-studded of the U.S. National Championships. Torri Huske takes the top seed in the meet and will be in the final heat, Lane 4. Kate Douglass and Gretchen Walsh will also have the middle of the pool in circle-seeded heats.
But Simone Manuel, Beata Nelson, Erin Gemmell, Claire Curzan, Erika Palaez, Isabel Ivey, Claire Weinstein, Anna Peplowski and Rylee Erisman will be looming, among a group of contenders.
The men’s 100 free will be some familiar faces as well with Jack Alexy as the top overall seed. Chris Guiliano and Destin Lasco will be in the middle of the pool in the circle-seeded heats.
Looming will be Matt King, Patrick Sammon, Brooks Curry, Shaine Casas, Kieran Smith, Grant House and Jonny Kulow, all looking to crash the party and make the Worlds team.
The top name on the 800 early heats at the U.S. National Championships is Katie Grimes as world record-holder Katie Ledecky will be in the finals heat.
Lance Norris has the top time in the non-final heat of the men’s 1500.
