UNC Asheville Picks Up Pair of Verbals from Texas’ Riley Edmundson, In-Stater Julie Lahiff

NEW COMMITS: The University of North Carolina, Asheville has picked up two new verbal commitments for their growing class of 2025 from Flower Mound, Texas native Riley Edmundson and Julie Lahiff of Raleigh, N.C.

Both talented swimmers will join Caitlin Hefner of Mount Holly, N.C. on campus in the fall of 2021.

At the 2020 CCSA Championships, the Bulldogs finished fourth overall in the team standings under head coach Elizabeth Lykins.

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“I am so excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and swimming career at the University of North Carolina at Asheville!! The coaches and team were so welcoming and I cannot wait to become part of the family!! I want to thank all of family, friends, coaches, teachers, and teammates for constantly being there for me and staying supportive throughout this process. Go Bulldogs!”

Edmundson does her club swimming with Lakeside Aquatic Club and flew to 18th place in the 200 fly at College Station Sectionals in March. Last summer, she notched five lifetime bests at Austin Sectionals before going on to place 11th in the 200m fly at Des Moines Futures.

Her best times include:

  • 50 fly – 26.88
  • 100 fly – 56.45
  • 200 fly – 2:03.80
  • 200 IM – 2:09.34
  • 400 IM – 4:30.85

Also competing for Flower Mound High School, Edmundson placed 14th in the 100 fly at the Texas 6A State Championships during her junior season. She also earned silver in that event at the 6A Region 02 Championships and won it at the District 05 meet.

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“I chose Asheville because the coaches made me feel welcome from the start. I love the campus and the team culture, and I can’t wait to be a bulldog!!”

Lahiff trains year-round with New Wave Swim Team and most recently placed 17th in the 400 IM at Cary Sectionals where she also finaled in the 200 breast and 200 IM. She earned three best times at Greensboro Sectionals last summer before going on to finish 18th in the 200m breast at TYR Summer Seniors.

Her best times include:

  • 100 breast – 1:05.76
  • 200 breast – 2:22.53
  • 200 IM – 2:09.37
  • 400 IM – 4:32.29
  • 500 free – 5:10.03

A current senior at Cardinal Gibbons High School, Lahiff placed 12th in the 500 free and 13th in the 100 breast at the North Carolina 4A State Championships in 2020. She finished first and third, respectively, in those events a week prior at the 4A Eastern Regional Championships.
