NEW COMMIT: UNC Asheville has scored their first verbal commitment for the 2021-22 season and beyond from in-state standout Caitlin Hefner of Mount Holly, N.C.

She told Swimming World:

“It is with great excitement that I am announcing my verbal commitment to UNC Asheville to continue my swimming and educational journey! I want to thank everyone who has supported me on my journey over the last 12 1/2 years, all the coaches and teachers that have pushed me, and all of my friends who have always supported me. Go Bulldogs!”

A talented distance freestyler, Hefner does her club swimming with SwimMAC Carolina. She most recently earned eight best times at the Southern Premier Invitational where she earned silver in the mile. Last summer, she achieved 100% lifetime bests at North Carolina LCM Seniors en route to collecting the bronze medal in the 1500m free.

Her best times include:

  • 200 free – 1:54.38
  • 500 free – 5:01.97
  • 1000 free – 10:16.08
  • 1650 free – 16:58.07
  • 400 IM – 4:33.68

When she suits up for the Bulldogs as a member of the class of 2025, Hefner will add valuable depth to their freestyle group. She would’ve finished third in the mile as well as scored in the B-final of the 500 free at the 2020 CCSA Championships where UNC Asheville finished fourth overall in the team standings under head coach Elizabeth Lykins.
