UCSB Gets Another Verbal From Open Water Junior National Qualifier Annalena Siering

NEW COMMIT: Distance freestyle specialist Annalena “Lena” Siering of Santa Monica, Calif. will remain in-state for her college career after verbally committing to the University of California, Santa Barbara beginning in 2022.

She will join Samantha Banos, Hazel Derr, Isabella Urlando, Alyssa Lund, Vivian Mudry, Olivia Hovorka and Nina Statler as members of the Gauchos’ Class of 2026.

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“I am very thankful to Coach Mohammad and Coach Iman at TSM. They helped me prepare tremendously for this new adventure. I am also very excited to be working with Coach Matt and his team to try to win as many championships as possible with UCSB. Go, Gauchos!”

Siering does her club swimming with Team Santa Monica and is an Open Water Junior National qualifier. She placed fifth in the 1500m free and 11th in the 800m free at the 18&U Spring Cup – Irvine in April after earning bronze in the 1000 free at St. George Sectionals in March.

Her best times include:

500 free – 5:00.23
1000 free – 10:16.67
1650 free – 17:08.67
400 IM – 4:31.70

A rising senior at Santa Monica High School, Siering finished sixth in the 500 free and 14th in the 200 IM as a junior at the CIF Southern DII Section Championships.

Siering will make an immediate impact when she suits up for the Gauchos. She would’ve scored in the top-8 of the mile at the 2021 MPSF Championships while also placing in the B-final of the 400 IM and 500 free.
