U.S. Open Qualifier Hunter Lund Verbally Commits to North Carolina Tar Heels
NEW COMMIT: The University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill has received yet another verbal commitment for the 2022-23 season and beyond from U.S. Open qualifier Hunter Lund of Spring, Texas.
He will join Spencer Freeman, Jack Guenther, Tyler Roberton, Patrick Sleater and Tanner Jones as a member of the Tar Heels’ Class of 2026.
Regarding his commitment, he said:
“I am excited to finally announce my commitment to further my academic and athletic career at the University of North Carolina! I would like to give a special thanks to my friends, family, and coaches for their amazing support to help me get to where I am today. Go Heels! ??”
A talented freestyler, Lund does his club swimming with Premier Aquatics Club of Klein and earned best times in all five of his events at the 18&U Winter Championships back in December. In Summer 2019, he was the silver medalist in both the 200m and 400m free at the Southern Zone Senior Championships.
His best times include:
- 200 free – 1:38.73
- 500 free – 4:24.20
- 1000 free – 9:07.23
- 1650 free – 15:40.48
- 400 IM – 3:56.28
A rising senior at Klein Oak High School, Lund finished 13th in the 500 free as a sophomore at the Texas 6A State Championships. He has also earned USA Swimming Scholastic All-American honors.
Under head coach Mark Gangloff, the Tar Heels finished sixth at the 2021 ACC Championships.
