NEW COMMIT: Junior National qualifier Jack Guenther of Charlotte, N.C. has decided to remain in state for his college career after verbally committing to the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill for the fall of 2022.

He will join Tyler Roberton, Patrick Sleater and Tanner Jones as a member of the Tar Heels’ Class of 2026.

Regarding his commitment, he said:

“I am excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my athletic and academic career at the University of North Carolina! Thank you to everyone who has helped me get here. Go heels! ?”

A talented breaststroker, Guenther does his club swimming with Aquatic Team Of Mecklenburg and most recently picked up six new best times at the NC 18&U Winter Championships. Last winter, he raced to fifth in the 200 breast and seventh in the 200 IM at North Carolina Seniors.

In Summer 2019, he placed 14th in the 200m breast at North Carolina LCM Seniors before going on to race three events at Greensboro Futures.

His best times include:

  • 50 breast – 26.47
  • 100 breast – 55.42
  • 200 breast – 2:00.41
  • 200 IM – 1:53.97
  • 200 free – 1:61.68

Currently a junior at Myers Park High School, Guenther raced the 200 IM at the North Carolina 4A State Championships as a sophomore. In 2020, he finished seventh in both the 100 breast and 200 IM at the NCHSAA 4A Western Regional Championships.

Guenther will add valuable breaststroke depth both individually and on medley relays when he arrives on campus at the start of the 2022-23 season. He would’ve been their third-fastest 100 breaststroker and fourth-fastest 200 breaststroker last season under head coach Mark Gangloff.
