NEW COMMIT: It may be Halloween, but there’s nothing scary about this news for NC State: they have just received a new verbal commitment for their Class of 2026 from Stephen Conrad of Mobile, Ala.

He will join JT Ewing, Kyle PonslerMichael CotterLance Norris, and Ryan Weaver in Raleigh in the fall of 2022, suiting up for an NC State team that won their sixth-straight ACC Championship title in 2020.

He told Swimming World:

“I’m super excited to announce my commitment to further my academic and athletic career at North Carolina State University! I’d like to thank my family, friends, and all of the coaches who have helped me along the way. This is only the beginning… #PBG?♦️”

A talented backstroker, Conrad does his club swimming with City of Mobile Swim Association and owns the U.S. Open cuts in both the 100/200 back. He placed third in the 100 back and fourth in the 200 back at Cary Sectionals in March after finishing second and third, respectively, in those events at the Southeastern Swimming Championships in February.

In Summer 2019, he raced to fourth place in the 400m IM as well as fifth in both the 100m and 200m back at the Southeastern LCM Championships. Conrad then went on to earn 100% best times at Greensboro Futures where he placed fourth in the 200m back and sixth in the 100m back.

His best times include:

  • 50 back – 22.94
  • 100 back – 48.81
  • 200 back – 1:48.11
  • 200 IM – 1:53.10
  • 400 IM – 4:08.04
  • 100 fly – 49.93

Currently a junior at Saint Pauls Episcopal High School, Conrad is already a four-time individual Alabama State Championship finalist. He won both the 100 back and the 100 fly as a sophomore while collecting bronze and gold, respectively, in those races during his freshman season.

In 2020, he also led off his team’s winning 4×50 medley relay in 22.94 and anchored the victorious 4×50 free relay in 20.79.
