Thiago Pereira, Therese Alshammar Lead World Cup Rankings After Three Meets
LAUSANNE, Switzerland, October 18. ACCORDING to the latest leaderboard release, Brazil's Thiago Pereira and Sweden's Therese Alshammar stand atop their respective divisions in the FINA World Cup rankings.
Pereira has 75 points, well ahead of South Africa's Darian Townsend (36) and Cameron van der Burgh (23). Pereira likely needs to just attend the rest of the meets and do fairly well in his chosen events to win the overall title at the end.
Alshammar, a veteran of the World Cup series, stands in first with 55 points. USA's Julia Smit owns 30 points, while The Netherlands' Hinkelien Schreuder has 26 points heading into the fourth stop in Tokyo.
The overall winners of the World Cup standings will win $100,000, while second place takes $50,000 and third place earns $30,000. Additionally, each race winner earns $1,500, while second takes $1,000 and third place takes $500.
