The Week That Was #1: 2024 Olympic Trials Will Be Held at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis

Prior to each of the past four Summer Olympics, USA Swimming has selected its team at an eight-day Olympic Trials in Omaha, Neb., at a venue known as the Qwest Center (2008), CenturyLink Center (2012 & 2016) and CHI Health Center (2021). In a swimming configuration, the venue could seat about 12,000 spectators. For 2024, however, the Trials will be on the move. According to a report from the Indianapolis Star, the Trials will be held at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, the home of the NFL’s Indianapolis Colts.
The Week That Was #2: NCAA Men’s Championships: Cal Clinches National Title Behind Team Chemistry Led By Fifth-Year Standouts

The California Golden Bears are national champions again. Cal finished the NCAA Men’s Championships with 487.5 points, defeating Texas by 51 points. The Longhorns scored 436.5 points, while Florida took third with 374. NC State (291) and Indiana (265) rounded out the top five. Cal finished third in the 400 freestyle relay to conclude the meet, but the Bears mathematically clinched the victory after the 200 butterfly, when they established a 63-point lead that Texas could not erase with only two events remaining.
The Week That Was #3: University of Arizona Swimmers Write Letter to NCAA on Lia Thomas

Following last week’s NCAA Women’s Championships, when Penn swimmer Lia Thomas captured the NCAA title in the 500 freestyle and swam in two other championship finals, members of the swimming community continue to issue public statements on the controversial presence of Thomas, a transgender female, at the women’s meet. The latest comments come from a group of University of Arizona swimmers that includes longtime head coach and USA Swimming national team director Frank Busch and 2008 Olympian Lacey Nymeyer, plus others from the Wildcats’ 2008 national championship group.

The original plan had him gone – although not forgotten. A legend of his ilk will always have an influence, an impact that endures. But when a certain Hall of Fame coach announced his retirement from the University of Texas late last March, the 2022 edition of the NCAA Championships figured to have a different look. An unusual feel. A missing man in Burnt Orange.
One day, indeed, that scenario will be a reality.
