The Road to Singapore: Psych Sheets Released for U.S. Nationals
USA Swimming has released the psych sheets for the National Championships, which will be the selection meet for this summer’s World Championships in Singapore. Nationals will run from June 3-7 at the Indiana University Natatorium in Indianapolis.
A combination of Team USA veterans and rising youngsters will battle for spots on the American roster for the World Champs, which will serve as the first major global long-course competition since the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. Several elite athletes will be absent from the meet, as they weight the next steps in their careers. Included in that group are Olympic champions Ryan Murphy and Lydia Jacoby.
Among the veterans to watch in Indy will be Regan Smith, who is entered in the 50 backstroke, 100 backstroke, 200 backstroke, 100 butterfly and 200 butterfly. Smith was the Olympic silver medalist in both backstroke events, along with the 200 fly. Meanwhile, multi-time Olympic gold medalists Katie Ledecky and Bobby Finke will headline the distance-freestyle events.
Gretchen Walsh, who set a world record in the 100 butterfly at the TYR Pro Series in Fort Lauderdale, will race the 50 fly, 100 fly, 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle.
This edition of Nationals is the first since the International Olympic Committee announced that the 50-meter stroke events will be contested at the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. With the sprint disciplines taking on greater emphasis at the Olympic level, the events will simultaneously take on greater importance at the national level.
The initial version of the psych sheets does not include Caeleb Dressel, the 10-time Olympic medalist. Dressel has competed in several meets during the 2025 campaign.
