New host Peter Busch opens the show with a rundown of the top finishers in the FINA Open Water World Championships and the controversy surrounding Grant Hackett's disqualification in the race.
We would like to clarify that it was not Chip Peterson that was involved in Hackett's disqualification. We are getting word that second-place finisher Mark Warkentin was the swimmer involved in the red card issued to Hackett. We will have more information on Wednesday's show.
Busch doesn't list all the 117 individual records set at the USMS short course nationals, but he highlights swims by Josh Davis and William Liscinsky. Both swam times that dipped under the NCAA "B" standard.
In Reaction Time, Busch talks to Mark Warkentin, who earned a spot in the inaugural 10K swim at the Olympics by finishing second in the world championships. Calling from Seville, Spain, Warkentin talks about his strategy during the race, his outlook for Thursday's 25K race and his plan in training for the Olympics.
The Tips and Technique section features a look at a DVD from Championship Productions, in which former Auburn University Coach David Marsh gives advice on perfecting the butterfly start. Among the tips he gives includes the number of kicks a swimmer should take and how the breakout affects the first stroke.
