NEW COMMIT: Olympic Trials qualifier and National Age Group record holder Josh Zuchowski of Jupiter, Fla. has selected Stanford University to continue his academic and swimming career beginning in the fall of 2022.

He will join recent commit Liam Custer on The Farm next fall, giving the Cardinal two of the biggest recruits in the Class of 2026.

Regarding his commitment, he said:

“Today is a day I have been dreaming of since I was seven years old and dove in the pool for my first race. I am overjoyed and honored to announce my commitment to swim and study at Stanford University. I would like to thank everyone who has helped me chase my dream including my teammates, coaches, friends, family and most of all God. I would like to give a special thank you to my dad who has stood next to me every step of the way and supported me in every way possible. I know I couldn’t have done this without you and I’ll continue trying my best to make you proud. I’m excited for the next 4 years of my life and to be part of the Stanford family! GO CARD!!!”

Zuchowski, who does his club swimming with Flood Aquatics Swim Team for his father and coach Jonathan Zuchowski, most recently raced three events at Wave II of the U.S. Olympic Trials last month in Omaha. Earlier this spring, he won the 50 back and 200 back at the NCSA Championships and was the runner-up in the 200 IM before going on to win the 100m back at the TYR 18&U Spring Cup in Orlando.

He finished seventh in the 200 back and 10th in the 100 back at Juniors East in December 2019 before going on to take ninth in the 200m back at the TYR Pro Swim Series – Knoxville that following January.

In summer 2019, he registered five top-8 finishes at Gainesville Sectionals and earned three gold medals at the Florida Gold Coast Senior LCM Championships. Zuchowski also finaled in both the 100m and 200m back at Phillips 66 Nationals that same summer.

In April 2019, Zuchowski made headlines for breaking Michael Andrew’s 13-14 NAG record in the 100m back.

His best times include:

  • 200 IM – 1:46.66
  • 400 IM – 3:48.49
  • 50 back – 21.86
  • 100 back – 46.86
  • 200 back – 1:41.68
  • 100 breast – 55.81
  • 200 breast – 2:03.00
  • 100 fly – 48.10
  • 200 fly – 1:46.62

A rising senior at Kings Academy, Josh Zuchowski is a four-time individual Florida 1A State Championship finalist. He won the 100 back and the 200 IM during both his sophomore and junior seasons while taking first and second, respectively, in those events as a freshman.

He has also earned USA Swimming Scholastic All-American honors twice for his efforts in the pool and in the classroom.

Like Custer, Zuchowski is a big get for Stanford, who finished second at the 2021 Pac-12 Championships. Even with a year of club swimming still to go, Zuchowski would’ve scored in the A-final of both the 100 and 200 back at last year’s conference meet.

The Cardinal are also bringing in Avery VossHayden ZhengMatt FenlonHayden Kwan and Gabe Machado this fall.
