NEW COMMIT: Tallahassee, Fla. native and U.S. Open qualifier Hayden Kwan has announced his verbal commitment to Stanford University and will arrive on campus in the fall of 2021.

He will join Gabe Machado on The Farm as a member of the Cardinal’s class of 2025.

He told Swimming World:

“I’m so excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at Stanford University! I want to thank my family, friends, and @unitedswimclub for their support. Go Card!”

A talented backstroker and IMer, Kwan swims year-round with United Swim Club and placed eighth in the 200 back, 13th in the 100 back, and 14th in the 100 fly at Juniors East in December. He won six events at the Florida Spring Championships in 2019 and raced to 15th in the 200m back at Junior Nationals last summer.

His best times include:

  • 200 IM – 1:48.41
  • 100 back – 48.46
  • 200 back – 1:45.98
  • 100 fly – 48.31

Also competing for Lawton Chiles High School, Kwan is a six-time Florida 3A State Championship finalist. The USA Swimming Scholastic All-American won the 100 back and was the 200 IM runner-up as a junior while taking first and third, respectively, in those events during his sophomore season. He also finished fourth and ninth in those races in his rookie campaign.
