Texas A&M Aggies Pick Up In-State Verbal Commitment from Martina Fuentes

NEW COMMIT: Texas A&M University has secured a new in-state verbal commitment for the fall of 2021 from Junior National qualifier Martina Fuentes of Houston, Texas.

She will join fellow Texas natives Joelle Reddin, Meredith Brown and Shannon Bagnal as well as Red River Aquatic Club teammates Brooke Fegley and Sarah Holt in College Station as a member of the Aggies’ class of 2025.

She told Swimming World:

“I am so excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my swimming and academic career at Texas A&M University!! I am truly grateful for my family, friends, and coaches that have helped me through this journey! Can’t wait to be an Aggie!! Gig’em”

A talented backstroker, Fuentes does her club swimming with Swim Houston Aquatic Center and most recently won the 200/400 IM combo at the Gulf Short Course Championships in February. In summer 2019, she recorded two best times at NCSAs.

While competing for the Uruguayan Swimming Federation, Fuentes had a strong showing at the Uruguayan Junior National Championships in April 2019.

Her best times include:

  • 100 back – 55.75
  • 200 back – 2:03.35
  • 50 free – 24.04
  • 100 free – 51.89
  • 200 free – 1:50.82

Also competing for Memorial High School, Fuentes finished 11th in the 200 free and 12th in the 100 back at the Texas 6A State Championships as a junior. She finished second and first, respectively, in those events two weeks prior at the UIL 6A Region 04 Championships.

Under head coach Steve Bultman, Texas A&M finished sixth overall in the team standings at the 2020 SEC Championships.
