Tennessee State 100 Back Runner-Up Rob McCall Commits to Southern Methodist

NEW COMMIT: Southern Methodist University has added a new addition to their talented Class of 2025 from Junior National qualifier Rob McCall of Nashville, Tenn.

He will join Pierce Thionville, Joe Rusnock, Rylan Stevenson, Russel ExumMax ZaunichCotton FieldsSawyer Inglis and Angus Corbeau as a member of the Mustangs in the fall of 2021.

He told Swimming World:

“I am excited and honored to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at SMU for the next four years! I want to give a special thanks to my coaches Christian Bahr and Joe Goeken for believing in me throughout my journey. I also want to thank my family, my friends, and my teammates for the constant support, encouragement, and motivation you all have given me. Pony up!”

A versatile swimmer, McCall does his club swimming with Ensworth Aquatics for coaches Christian Bahr and Joe Goeken. He won the 100 back and was the runner-up in the 200 back at the Southeastern Swimming Championships last February after competing at Juniors East in December 2019.

In Summer 2019, he had a great showing at the Southeastern LCM Championships before going on to race five events at the NCSA Championships.

His best times include:

  • 200 back – 1:46.53
  • 100 back – 49.36
  • 100 fly – 49.50
  • 50 free – 21.58
  • 100 free – 46.71
  • 200 free – 1:43.53

Also competing for Ensworth High School, McCall is a three-time individual Tennessee State Championship finalist. He placed second in the 100 back and seventh in the 100 fly as a junior while taking ninth in the former event during his sophomore season.

Under head coach Greg Rhodenbaugh, the Mustangs finished third overall in the team standings at the 2020 American Athletic Conference Championships.
