Swimming World Presents The 10 Best Performances of 2016
10 Best Performances of 2016:
During an Olympic year, there’s a plethora of performances that could rank among the year’s best. And that’s not even taking into account the record-breaking swims around the world during the lead-up to the Games…or the stellar short course yards performances in the United States. Needless to say, we had some good options from which to choose for the top ten races of the year.
The 2016 Rio Olympic Games were highlighted by record-breaking and ground-breaking swims as athletes from Singapore, Kazakhstan, and Spain each took home gold medals in swimming for the first time in their country’s history. Additionally, Katie Ledecky became only the second woman in history to ever win the 200, 400, and 800 meter freestyles at an Olympic Games, joining the legendary Debbie Meyer.

Garcia might be the first Spanish woman to win a swimming gold, but she’s not the first Spanish swimmer to do so. Martin Lopez-Zubero won the 200 back in Barcelona.
