Swimming World Names 2008 Divers of the Year
PHOENIX, Arizona, November 21. WITH December soon upon us, the annual celebratory issue of Swimming World naming the top aquatic athletes in the world will be coming to our subscribers' mailboxes and inboxes shortly.
Today, we start announcing the awardwinners of each of the top awards given out in the December issue.
The 2008 Swimming World Divers of the Year are Guo Jingjing and He Chong, two of the divers that led China to an incredible seven out of eight gold medals at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
The Diving Queen of China, Guo became the most decorated diver in Olympic history with her fifth and sixth career gold medals in Beijing. She passed China's Fu Minxia and Greg Louganis of the U.S., which previously tied for the top career mark with five golds apiece.
He completed one of the most dominant diving lists ever at the 2008 Beijing Games en route to winning the men's three-meter event at the Olympics. He tallied 572.90 points, including several perfect 10s being awarded by the judging panel.
